Kinds of humidifiers for heating units
There are 3 main kinds of furnace air saturators – drum (also called bypass), steam whole-home and flow-through humidifiers. All of them have their specific features, and we want to discuss them shortly.
A Bypass or Drumhumidifier is usually installed directly into your heating system and attached to your water network. Inside, there is a reservoir that is automatically filled with water from the pipe. The unit blows the air over a rotary wet pad, increasing the room moisture level. As a rule, such air saturators are in control of a humidistat. It detects the humidity inside the house and turns off only in case when the set moisture level is reached. Bypass/Drum units are presumed to be the cheapest option.

Flow-through humidifiers
Flow-through humidifiers operate a little bit differently. There is no reservoir inside them, but they need extra water from a surrounding floor drain. Besides, such Toronto Boiler Service use an aluminum pad through which bland air passes and then is sprayed via your duct-work.
It is a lot easier to maintain a flow-type unit since there is no water tank, and it prevents the accumulation of settlings and microorganisms inside the air saturator.
Steam whole-home units are quite similar to bypass humidifiers. They are equipped with water tanks and are in control of a humidistat that operates the same way as in drum units. But when the humidistat indicates a low level of moisture, the air saturator in the first place heats the water in the reservoir and then turns it to steam. After that, the steam blows through your duct-work. When the humidifier reaches the needed moisture level, it switches off. Steam units are more efficacious for larger houses, and they are more high priced than the other two types.

What to pay attention to while buying a furnace humidifier
As articulated earlier, all the air saturator units have some specific features. So, when you put on thinking cap buying a furnace humidifier, there is a list of some essential characteristics to be aware of. They are the following:
- Indicators on water reservoirs: theyalert you when your water tank needs either emptying or replacing the water. Usually, bypass/drum units are equipped with such indicators.
- Cut-off feature: it means if a water tank drops below the heating component, ahumidifier will turn off immediately.
- Automatic functioning mode: some furnace humidifiersgive the possibility to set the moisture level you want, and the unit automatically turns on and off, maintaining the
- Over-spill protection: air saturator reservoirsare continuously filled with fresh water as heated water evaporates. This feature precludes the unit from overflowing by cutting off the water at a set level.
- Hold-down bridging: it provides aneasy mounting onto your duct-work.
- Corrosion resistant feature: it iscustomary for whole-home humidifiers. As a rule, they are enclosed in a noncorrodible carcass to guarantee the longtermness of the unit.
- Reversingside-mounted panels: they allow HVAC technicians to mount a furnace humidifier either on the left or on the right of duct-work, so that it is sized and installed properly.
